Meet the leadership team
Caren Silverlieb, Executive Director
Caren has spent her entire career at the intersection of affordable housing and supportive services for older adults. She earned her master’s degree from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. Caren has held a number of executive-level roles in community-based, long-term care, including independent housing, assisted living, and in her own business – SilverLiving Consulting. Caren has been a frequent speaker at state and national conferences, universities, and private companies as well as to the public on a variety of topics including “Supporting People with Alzheimer’s in Non-Clinical Settings,” “Senior Bullying and Bystander Response,” “End-of-Life Planning,” and others. Caren has published three how-to guides entitled “Tips and Techniques for Supporting Residents with Alzheimer’s,” “Tips and Techniques for Supporting Residents with Mental Illness,” and “A Replication Guide for Joyful Connections, a Structured Social Club for People Living with Memory Loss.” Caren is a former board member of LeadingAge Massachusetts, Mt. Pleasant Home, and Colony Retirement Homes, and a current board member of the Newton Community Development Foundation. Caren has a long personal history with Jack Satter House and looks forward to many productive and happy years here.
Rose Shapiro, Director of Resident Services
Rose Shapiro serves as the director of resident services at Jack Satter House and contracted sites in the North Shore. She leads a dedicated team of wellness professionals committed to ensuring residents have the resources they need to age with dignity, lead purposeful lives, and find joy in community. Rose is particularly interested in ways that individualized case management can help address the multifaceted health care needs of the aging population within their homes. Rose holds a degree in psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and is a licensed social worker. Her direction fosters a compassionate environment that prioritizes the well-being of older adults.
Eric Desharnais, Director of Facilities
Eric Desharnais is responsible for the maintenance of the physical property. He leads a dedicated crew that provides 24/7 support for our residents. He ensures that all local, state and federal inspections are met, and all equipment is maintained to the highest standards. Eric has over 20 years’ experience as a maintenance manager, focusing in the areas of preventative and predictive maintenance. He is also responsible for the development of the facility’s operating and capital budgets.
James Brown, Director of Dining Services
James Brown brings more than 20 years of experience in the event and food service industry to his role as director of dining services at Jack Satter House. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University with a degree in culinary arts and business, James is passionate about creating exceptional dining experiences. Under his leadership, Satter’s dining program continues to thrive, offering residents delicious and well-balanced meals. When he’s not at work, James enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, exploring hobbies like listening to true crime podcasts or catching reruns of The Sopranos. James is always happy to answer any food-related questions from residents and staff.
