Tammy B. Retalic, DNP, MS, RN, is the executive vice president for Hebrew SeniorLife’s Lunder CareForce Institute. Formed in 2025, the Institute will address the growing shortage of frontline health care workers by offering comprehensive training and career advancement in health and aging-related programs. This includes programs for those seeking certification as nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses, plus support for individuals who face language, technology, or financial obstacles to pursuing education.
Dr. Retalic was Hebrew SeniorLife’s chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services from 2013-2025. She has over 25 years of operational and leadership experience in academic and community-based hospitals, post-acute care services, and education and training. She is the recipient of the 2020 Elaine Sherman Award by the Organization of Nurse Leaders – MA, RI, NH, CT, VT, and the 2019 McKnight’s Women of Distinction award.
Dr. Retalic serves as vice chair for the Senior Quality Leap Initiative, an international community of practice for long-term care quality. She presents nationally on workforce issues and is an active participant in statewide initiatives such as the Massachusetts Nursing Council on Workforce Sustainability and Massachusetts Hospital Association workforce task forces. She has participated on numerous professional committees, such as the Massachusetts Clinical Laboratory Advisory Committee and the Advisory Committee to Support the Design and Development of HCA Curriculum Trainings.
Dr. Retalic is an accomplished speaker on leadership, clinical quality, employee engagement, and workforce development. She has also published in the areas of innovation, clinical quality, and performance improvement. In partnership with various external partners, she has secured over a million dollars in grant funding to support innovative workforce and educational initiatives.
Dr. Retalic holds a doctor of nursing practice from Regis College, a master of science in nursing from Boston College, and a bachelor of science from the University of Vermont. She is a member of the Organization of Nurse Leaders – MA, RI, NH, CT, VT.
