Sarah Sjöström, MSN, RN, ACNP-BC, Named Chief Nursing Officer at Hebrew SeniorLife

Sjöström has championed quality of care and age-friendly practices since joining Hebrew SeniorLife in 2010.

Sarah Sjöström, MSN, RN, ACNP-BC, has been promoted to chief nursing officer at Hebrew SeniorLife.

Sjöström joined Hebrew SeniorLife in 2010 as a staff nurse, later became director of nursing in the Medical Acute Care Unit, was promoted to associate chief nursing officer in 2017, and gained the vice president of ancillary services responsibilities in 2023.

She is co-chair of Hebrew SeniorLife’s Age-Friendly Committee and, through that work and as associate chief nursing officer, has championed quality of care and age-friendly practices across the organization. In 2021, she received a John A. Hartford Foundation scholarship to participate in the American Hospital Association Next Generation Leaders Fellowship. She is also a member of the Organization of Nurse Leaders and the Senior Quality Leap Initiative and a frequent conference speaker on topics including age-friendly care and mental health support for health care workers.

“Sarah Sjöström is an inclusive leader and strong advocate for staff who aims to bring joy into the workplace and champion staff well-being. She often states that her best days are when she is among the frontline team, hearing and learning from them, or spending time with older adults in a hallway conversation or at an activity. In a nutshell, she knows and understands the importance of what matters most — whether you are a team member or an older adult — and seeks to respond to and support those needs,” said Ernest I. Mandel, MD, SM, executive vice president of health care, chief medical officer, and chief quality officer at Hebrew SeniorLife and assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Sjöström will oversee the functions that provide direct patient care at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center: nursing; social work; life enhancement; expressive therapies; spiritual care; volunteer, youth, and community engagement; and bilingual services.
